subject: Five Things To Do While Visiting Maui [print this page] Whether you are visiting Maui in Hawaii for the first time or have been here several times, there are plenty of adventures and attractions for you to enjoy. Besides the usual Hawaiian activities of surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving, there are plenty of other things to do without getting wet, after all, Maui has been voted as the best island for outdoor adventures amongst the Hawaiian Islands.
Looking for something to do? Here are just five of the best adventures that Maui has to offer.
Hawaiian Luau's
Native Hawaiians often tell the ancestral history of Hawaii through dance and cuisine, and what better way to experience it all than attending an authentic Hawaiian luau? The food is to the extreme and the buffet usually includes some of Hawaii's staples such as roasted pig, poi, which is made from the taro root, and in some cases you might find some spam. Included with the food and drink is hula dancing, dancing with fire and music. Also, don't be afraid to go on stage and learn how to hula dance before the event starts as well.
In Maui there are many locations that throw this sort of bash, but for the most part you can find them sponsored by and located at or near the more upscale hotels in Lahaina or Kaanapali. Check ahead of time as some of the dance and events are family orientated and some are more on the romantic side.
Dinner Cruises
Want to set sail and spend some romantic time with that special someone? Book a dinner cruise to celebrate your event or just for fun. Check with the cruises for the packages they offer because most offer a more expensive deal that includes dinner, while you could save a few dollars on either the same cruise and enjoy just some appetizers or book a separate cocktail cruise which just appetizers and drinks.
In either case, the drinks are usually a cash bar. Regardless of which cruise you take, relax with a loved one and take in the beautiful sunset. Most cruises in Maui ship out from Lahaina, but there are some that go from Maalaea. In addition to food and drink, many of these cruises include music and dancing to make your evening that much more special.
Atlantis Submarine
One of the biggest tourist attractions on Maui is the Atlantis Submarine ride. This is your opportunity to actually go deep into the ocean and see ocean life in its natural habitat. After a boat ride taking you out to the sub, the Atlantis will then take you to the depths of beyond 100 feet. During your submarine ride you will see the various coral reefs, colorful fish and a really good chance of seeing sting rays float within the waters. If you're lucky, you may get a chance to see sea turtles, lobster, eels or even some of the larger fish such as a reef shark.
During whale season, which runs from December to May, there is an outside chance of seeing a humpback whale from underwater. The Atlantis Submarine is located along Front Street in Old Lahaina.
Zip Lining
Zip lining has become one of the biggest draws for adventure and fun, and not just in Maui as Las Vegas even has one now. However there is a reason that Maui was selected as the "Best Hawaiian Island for Outdoor Activities" among the Hawaiian Islands.
There are nearly 10 zip line companies on the island of Maui and each offer something different as they are located on different parts of the island and therefore you may zip over mountain ranges, low land, waterfalls and so much more. Some zip line companies also include hiking over bridges, which also has some climbing involved, but nothing too strenuous. Research each zip line company and see what adventures excites you the most and get the most value for your dollar.
Golfing
