subject: Tips On Grooming Your Teenage Daughter [print this page]

Being a teenager isnt very easyBeing a teenager isnt very easy. In addition to social and peer pressures, there is the added stress of puberty, increase in perspiration and growth of unwanted body hair. With all the hormonal changes and mood swings that your teenage daughter experiences, it is important that you help her get through these years by developing strong self- confidence in herself.

As a parent, it is time for you to start opening doors to a two way communication which involves sharing feelings and educating them on how best to take care of them. Here are some basic grooming habits that must be instilled in your teenage daughter from the very beginning

1. Regular Showers With the increase in production by the sweat glands, it is important that your teenager showers at least once a day. Regular baths are important to get rid of unwanted body odour, and shampooing and conditioning your hair also helps in preventing it from becoming greasy. Try to get your daughter a shower gel, shampoo or conditioner which suits her skin type and hair time for best results.

2. Washing Her Face Regularly One of the major side-effects of puberty is the sudden invasion of zits that your face experiences. It is important to keep your face clean from all the dust, perspiration and harmful chemicals that are floating in the air, which tend to aggravate the situation. Make sure your daughter washes her face on a regular basis and she uses a separate hand towel for her face only. It is recommended that you buy her a face wash that suits her skin type and encourage her to use a non-oily moisturizer right after. Take into consideration problems she faces such as oily skin, acne, dry skin or large pores. Purchase appropriate products accordingly.

3. Hair Removal While the teenage is too early to use aggressive hair removal strategies such as laser hair removal, encourage regular removal of unwanted hair by shaving, waxing or plucking. Not only will his boost her self-confidence since she may feel more attractive, but it is also recommended from a hygienic point of view.

4. Using a Good Deodorant While kids do not need to use deodorant at all, once you strike puberty, it is important for you to start using one to fight the increase of sweat production and body odour. If you are following any physical or sporting activity make sure your child carries deodorant with her and uses wet wipes on her underarms.

5. Change of Clothes Encourage your daughter to change her clothes regularly and make sure she throws them for a wash instead of reusing them. Clothes also tend to carry body odour which is many times not noticed by the person wearing it.

In addition to this, it is important that you educate your daughter about how best to maintain utmost hygiene when she menstruates. This is a very confusing and emotionally stressful time for your teenagers. It is important that you are always around to answer any questions that they may have.
