subject: Top Tips For Moving House [print this page]

Moving house is officially one of the most stressful things to do, it does not matter how precise you plan your big move. If you are about to start packing up to move to your new abode or you are currently in the process of picking your new dream home, here are our top tips for ensuring that your move goes as well as it possibly can.

The first thing to remember when moving house is that losing your cool will only lead to more mess. If you cannot find that one box containing vacuum cleaner attachments, it is not the end of the world. Remember that during a house move you will not be the only one feeling the pressure, unless you are switching to a bachelor pad that is! Take deep breaths and even if things do go wrong, count to ten and start all over again.

When packing your belongings try and stick to the rule of three. Separate belongings into boxes, the first being the absolute essentials that you will need on the first day that you move in, the second being the items that you will need within the week and the third for items that you can live without until you have time to unpack. If you follow this rule you will save yourself time and make sure that on your moving day you can locate the essentials, the kettle, the wine glasses and the takeaway menus!

If you are moving into a freshly painted new home then it is best to face the facts straight away, you will end up marking the walls. Many home providers will allow you to fill up an existing paint pot with the same colour that they used to paint your home. Obviously try and avoid dented or putting holes in the wall however if your king size mattress does happen to scuff the magnolia, do not worry.

Before you bring in your furniture, take a walk around your home to ensure that everything is as it should be. You will have seen it many times however it is advisable to have one last final check before you start making your house, your home. Stand in the centre of a bare room and turn slowly in a circle taking in each corner in the room. If you do find any damaged skirting boards, loose screws or any other damage let your builder know.
