subject: Construction Site Gatehouses And Catering Services [print this page] There are number of aspects which affect the security of a construction site, the main one in our eyes is ensuring that only those who are supposed to me on the site can actually gain access.
So clearly as the description states some sort of access control is needed for the site, a popular option is the installation of a gatehouse control system which is not too dissimilar from a turnstile gate you would find on many football or other sporting grounds.
A turnstile at a sporting event is often manned or for more advanced stadia works on a barcode scanning system. Neither of these approaches suits construction sites perfectly, in fact turnstiles being manned is not an appropriate option at all.
Using a form of swipe card or barcode system is a possibility however this form of set up can lead to what is commonly known in the industry as buddy punching which is where employees who arent actually present for work are clocked in by a colleague. This practice obviously leads to firms paying out wages unduly to staff who have fiddled the entry system.
To avoid such issues you should look in to having a gatehouse installed which runs a biometric identification system. A biometric identification system will use the unique characteristics of an individuals hand to prove beyond doubt which employee is entering the site. With the system running off hand scans it is impossible for buddy punching to occur, that is unless someone lends their hand to friend which is beyond unlikely.
Once you have ensured that only the right people can gain access to the site you may wish to give some thought to how you are going to power this work force. A number of workers are highly likely to bring their own lunch (snap, pack up depending on location) however provisions should then be made for employees who favour a hot meal on site.
Most construction site facilities companies will be able to provide a varying range of on site catering services. The level of catering you require will be mostly dependant on the size of your work force, if you only have dozen or so men on site a fully functioning canteen may be out of the question though may justify having a vending machine on site to prevent the need to pop off site to grab a quick snack.
If you have quite a large on site work force a larger canteen facility providing hot and cold meals is a must, especially coming up to winter months. Theres nothing better than a hot meal and a brew when your working through a bitter British winter.
