Plastic film manufacturers can benefit tremendously from additives: experts

Modern film manufacturers are often struck between the dilemma of

quality and cost as the virgin polymer has grown increasingly costly

but gives best quality products. On the other hand, using recycled

polymers or filler in polymers is very cost effective but reduces the

quality.

First and foremost, recycled polymers invariably have poorer physical

properties compared to the virgin polymers.

Second, the polymers from two different sources do not meld with each

other easily even if they are of the same plastic.

Last is the problem of moisture retention in recycled polymers.

Recycled polymers are washed and then shredded into smaller pieces

before being processed into granules. This process commonly results in

the polymer retaining a lot of moisture which can create severe

surface defects in the film.

This forces the manufacturers to try out various additives in order to

maintain their products' quality despite the increased filler loading

in their products but the results often fall short of the

expectations.

Vin Industries, one of the country's leading manufacturers of niche plastic additives has developed high performance additives for plastic film manufacturing. FillMor and StrengtheX are two such additives.

"Use of FillMor S has not only allowed us to increase filler loading

but has also perceptibly improved the looks of the film we

manufacture," claims a manufacturer from Punjab.

"FillMor is one of our best additives. Its ability to increase filler

loading has garnered it and Vin Industries much critical acclaim in

the industry," said Rohit Mahajan, technical expert at Vin Industries.

On the other hand, StrengtheX improves the physical properties of the

plastic sheet/film despite the use of recycled blown HDPE and allows

for up to 10 percent increase in filler loading. Besides this,

StrengtheX also acts as a desiccant and removes the moisture related

surface defects, improving the finish and aesthetics of the end

products.

According to the manufacturers, Vin Industries, StrengtheX is one of

the company's top additives and has gathered a loyal customer base for

itself and the company.

Based in New Delhi with a strong sales network throughout India, Vin

Industries is the country's leading manufacturer of niche additives

for the plastic industries ever since the company's inception in 1997.
