Every occasion in India has a song to go with it. When it is about music, how we can forget Rabindranath Tagore? He was the one who sung Jana Gana Mana, the national anthem of India and was credited for uniting India through Music. India is famous for its distinct music culture. Folk, Pop, Jazz and Classical are the varieties of music in India. Classic form is in the tradition of Indian music. There are several other cultural traditions also. Most of the music in India is in the Folk form. The traditions and the cultures of India and Hindi music are interconnected with each other. Rhythm and Harmony are the basic elements of music. Sound and Silence are the medium of Music. Pop music in India was started with the song of Ahmed Rushdi in 1966.

The combination of three forms of art including singing, playing instruments and dancing are referred by Classical music of India. The expression of something vocally is known as singing. Playing instruments is conveying the music through instruments and dancing refers to articulating music through gestures, expressions and movements of body. These all forms are independent and do not depend on each other, they can be performed independently. Out of them, the most superior art form is singing.

Films of India play an important role in popularity of music. Hindi is the national language widely spoken in various states of India, so Bollywood films are more helpful for the sales of music in India. Bollywood music is a form of music and has its references in Indian culture and is also inspired by western music. The most famous Indian music celebrity is A.R.Rahman. He has won many Awards for its work and has got a success at international level. Rahman has become one of the worlds all- time top selling recording artists. Today, Hindi film songs are played in North India in marketplaces, shops, bus and trains. Mostly the people in big cities are always singing and listening to the Hindi songs. Punjabi music has also been popularized because of its different style. The Punjabi songs are mostly sung during the harvest festival.

Music is also famous for its presence in dance forms in India. There are many dances making the music popular. The competitions in music have created a curiosity of learning it. There are many popular dance shows and singing competition. Hip hop music is mostly used by the dance performers in the competition. Baba Sehgal was credited as Indias first rapper with Hip hop music. The young generation are very much influenced by Hip hop music and hence made it very popular throughout the India.

Not only Hindi music but many other cultures in the south India has brought the music in Tamil language also. Bengali music is also unique and is quite popular in India. The colonial presence in Bengal after the independence, gave the birth to Rock music. Rajasthani folk music is also famous for its unique style. The song like Mile Sur Mera Tumhara consolidates the feelings of national integration and unity in diversity. Yes, Music in India had always been changing since its birth.
