The distance between Jammu and Srinagar is around 290 km. It will take four hours on road to reach from Jammu to Srinagar. The easiest mode of travelling from Jammu to Srinagar is by local buses. There are direct buses from Jammu to Srinagar.
There are several state owned buses (J&KSRTC) that ply to Srinagar from Jammu at an interval of 15 minutes. Plenty of buses are available in this route and the cost of a seat is Rs. 150 by bus. Travelling by bus is cheaper and is best suitable for individual travellers and youngsters.
One can reach from Jammu to Srinagar by car as well. Cabs like Sumo and jeep taxis plying from Jammu to Srinagar are available on hire from the Jammu railway station and bus stand. The cab charges range from Rs. 7 to Rs. 24 per kilometre, depending upon the type of car hired. People, who prefer comfortable journey, can hire a vehicle for oneself, even though it might be very expensive.
The more popular option is travelling by private operated minibuses that ply from Jammu bus stand that are more comfortable and even cheaper than the hired cabs. This mode of travel is recommended for families, kids and group travellers.
There are direct flights from Jammu to Srinagar. As Jammu has an excellent airport one can opt to board the flight from Jammu and fly to Srinagar. There are many daily flights from GoAir, SpiceJet and Air India that operate flights from Jammu to Srinagar and the fare is cheap as well as affordable.
Srinagar does not have a railhead and at present there are no railway lines connecting Jammu and Srinagar.
