This is not only going to help you to organize things as you go along, it can be motivational in itself. After all, you will be able to look back at the work that you have already done and see what progress you have made. It will also help you to have some working room so that you can move around and don't feel hemmed in as a result of the disorganization.
Garage organization would also require you to have certain items place to keep things as organized as possible. For example, a pegboard can help you to stay organized on either a large or small scale. Pegboards are very popular in garage areas because they can help you to keep your tools organized. There are also some specialized pegs that you can purchase which can help keep larger items up and out of the way. If you utilize them properly, they will make it easier for your overall organizational project to get completed.
Finally, resolve yourself to throw away items that are no longer needed. Of course, you could sell those items at a yard sale or on eBay, but that is going to take some time that may be better spent elsewhere. If it is something that has not been used for a long time and is not going to be of interest to anyone else, it is time to get rid of it. This can be very liberating, and once you get started, it will be much easier to keep going.
