subject: The Tallboy Is The New Kid On The Block, The Mauriti Suzuki Ritz [print this page]

With the success of the Swift in India; Maruti Suzuki decided to launch the Ritz here (known as the Splash worldwide). With the company eyeing on the entry level market, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz car is the 7th car in the 3-6lakh bracket for the manufacturer. The car is claimed to be more of a practical alternative to the Swift. It offers almost everything the Swift does, albeit at a slightly lesser price tag and a considerably lower waiting period.

Looks and Features

The tallboy design of the Ritz is quite unique to the market thanks to the quirky rear. The boomerang style tail lamps and the tiny rear glass doesnt appeal to everyone. But the side profile is quite good. The meaty wheels arches add character to the car and the crease on the lower portion looks proportionate. The front of the car is quite impressive and the headlamps stand out. The creases and lines on the bonnet give it a mature look and the car looks quite good from the front angle. The interiors are well laid out and the high headroom gives an airy feel to the car. A nice touch is the race car styled independent tachometer near the steering wheels. The quality of the interior is at par with the Swift and they are a nice place to be in. The car now comes with steering mounted music controls, ABS, Airbags, dual tone dashboard (for the top end variant).

Engine and Performance

The Maruti Suzuki Ritz variants are: 1.2L Petrol engine that churns out 84bhp and a healthy 113NM of torque which provides outstanding drivability in the town. The car pulls quite easily and is extremely peppy. The motor is actually better than the 1.3L found in the Swift in terms of excitement and peppiness. The other Maruti Suzuki Ritz variants include the famous 1.3L multi-jet diesel engine. The engine that is provided by Fiat is one of the most popular and fantastic engines and is used in a variety of cars by a variety of manufacturers. With 75 bhp on tap, the engine is frugal and delivers an outstanding economy of 18kmpl in the city. There is noticeable turbo lag but it isnt a deal breaker for the Maruti Suzuki Ritz car.

Ride and Handling

Being a tallboy and with a soft suspension setup, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz car isnt very stable on high speed corners. There is body roll and the drive doesnt inspire confidence. But thanks to the amazing engine, the car is extremely peppy in both the Maruti Suzuki Ritz car variants.
