But the fact remains that SMEs face the challenge of keeping their IT systems an software applications up and running, and it is difficult to support all their business needs with the limited teams and budgets available to them.

Enterprise heads must realize that despite their business size, they are also equally dependent on technology to operate successfully. At the same time, they must also understand that technology should be effectively aligned with their core business, competitive pressures and customer demands.

Companies have a lot to gain from managed service model, especially in the current recession scenario. SMEs with multiple brand offices, sales and distribution depots and marketing units spend considerable resources on the maintenance of their distributed IT infrastructure.

In such a case, SMEs have three options:

1. They can urge their service provider to start providing services using the managed service model.

2. They can start implementing the principles of the managed service mode in their IT departments.

3. They can do both by selecting services that would work best with each approach.

Various industry studies estimate that in-house IT departments spend approximately 80% of their time and budgets running operations, which can be completely automated. They can spend their energy increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
