subject: Enjoy A Picturesque Trip From New Zealands North Island To South Island With Campervans [print this page]

A campervan holiday is the best way to experience the scenic splendour of New Zealand. You can take periodic halts to trek, explore or go shopping. New Zealand is a rocky and largely pastoral terrain. Set out on an inimitable campervan holiday and admire New Zealands flora and fauna, awe-inspiring scenery and fascinating cities. Excellent roads and light traffic made my NZ campervan holiday extremely pleasurable.

On my vacation I halted wherever I found a motor camp and I was free to spend as much time as I wished at every location. With a campervan holiday in New Zealand I could economize by buying provisions and preparing my own meals. Depending on the duration of your vacation you can tour New Zealand in short trips for a few days or embark on an extended vacation.

From the North Islands northern point towards the west coastline I passed through the Northland Forest Park, with lots of Kauri trees. These trees are the second major species following the Sequoia Redwoods in California. I enjoyed lots of exciting activities on my drive to Auckland, New Zealands leading city, such as a stopover at the parks and gardens, museums and art galleries and the numerous leisure and theme parks.

As I left Auckland, I headed southwards into the geothermal region close to Rotorua. This active volcanic region features one of the major boiling lakes worldwide. Rotorua is the heartland of the unique Maori culture.

Backing off a bit to the west, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves are a must-visit spot. In a dark cave, the ceiling is illuminated like a starry sky. As I travelled southwards I reached the Mount Egmont National Park. I enjoyed the drive past spectacular scenery and arrived in New Zealands capital city, Wellington. The Te Papa is the national museum and is a must visit spot. A carved stone in the harbour area states that this is the city of action and rightfully so, you will find lots of things to do in this region.

Prior to crossing towards the South Island you must visit Putangiura Pinnacles, especially if you are a Lord of the Rings enthusiast. It entails a three-hour campervan drive from Wellington. After this, I crossed the Cook Strait towards the South Island. I think this region is even more picturesque than New Zealands North Island. Avail the ferry services for passage amid Wellington and Picton. Ferries are used to carry campervans to and fro and for unsurpassed views you must avail the morning ferry.

I found an interesting initial stop at Westport which is an old mining town located on the west coast. You can either explore a replicated underground mine or stopover at the rugged coast. Along the shoreline the vista is amazing, with formations such as the Blowholes at Punakaiki and Pancake Rocks. Franz Josef Glaciers is positioned further southwards and is another must visit spot. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip from the North to the South Island with camper van hire in New Zealand. Hire a campervan and set out on a memorable journey.
