subject: A Glimpse Into Cocaine Compulsion In California [print this page]

The state of California is certainly an easy spot to get hold of cocaine making being hooked on it easier also. The drug traffickers know the fact that the best way to hook a buyer is to get them while they are young providing them with a buyer for many years into the future. With this is mind, they focus on the middle and high schools for new business. We have all been teenagers ourselves therefore we recognize how indestructible teens feel. The undesirable situations are for other people not us and our loved ones. Drugs abused exclusively on the wrong side of the fence. Neither of such maxims is true, undoubtedly.

Each one of us has a self destructive ability. Drug addiction understands no discrimination. Cocaine can be found among the rich and famous as well as the homeless bums. It can be found in expensive private schools and central city public schools.

The media only allows all of us in on the overdoses of the celebrity or the poor bag lady lying in the downtown gutter. The same drug cost them their lives in spite of social status, fame or wealth. Cocaine is a rediculously addictive drug.

Some people begin snorting cocaine as a ?casual user? at parties. But what the novice does not know is that with each snort of coke, it takes a larger dose next time to give you the same high.

If you would like to nab another scapegoat to blame for cocaine addiction in California, look at dopamine. Dopamine is a strong chemical existing in our brains that controls reward-driven learning. If you were to observe a brain scan of the athlete who just won the gold in an Olympics event, his dopamine level would be sky high in comparison to the one pulling weeds from his garden. The higher the reward, the higher the dopamine level in the brain. Cocaine acts on the brain?s dopamine center. Cocaine causes the user to feel more alert, more euphoric and more confident.

The downside of this jolt of dopamine-producing stimulant is that once the person comes down from the high, the level of dopamine is less than when he took the hit of cocaine. With the drop in dopamine, the user is depressed, lethargic and irritable. The only thing that will bring the user back up is another hit of coke. Thus begins the vicious cycle. Once a person is addicted to cocaine, it becomes the most important factor in life. It rules over family, career, personal looks and hygiene, and even life itself.

Users who inject cocaine are at risk of Hepatitis C through shared needles. Hepatitis C is becoming a major problem in America. Hep-C is a blood disease that is not always curable. If a user goes into a public or private bathroom to care for his bloody nose, the blood that drips from his nose can remain disease transmittable for 12 hours if the area is not disinfected. Hep-C is a blood disorder that can cause liver failure.

Cocaine addicts in California now have specialized treatment centers with extremely qualified physicians who know the best ways to treat this cruel addiction. The cocaine addict is usually met by a treatment team that can include a physician, psychologist, nurse, counselor, dietician and other professionals. The patient does not simply occupy a ward for drug addicts.

Many centers offer private rooms that are quite home-like, settings that are pastoral and serene, outdoor activities, spa treatments and group sessions with people who are going through similar addictions. Modern centers have modern treatments for California cocaine addicts. Help is just a phone call away.
