subject: Gandhigiri Of Anna Hazare [print this page]

Anna Hazare is the true follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He uses the principles of Gandhi. In 1992, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan the third highest civilian award by the Government of India. Kisan Baburao Hazare popularly known as Anna Hazare has born on 15 June 1937. He is an Indian social activist and a former soldier of the Indian Army. Anna has led many movements for promoting rural development and is well known for upgrading the village of Raleghan Siddhi, located in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. He has also conducted hunger strikes to fulfil his demands for the welfare of Indians. Nowadays, he is fighting against corruption in India.

Anna Hazare had launched Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Aandolan (Peoples Movement against Corruption) in 1991. It was a popular movement to fight against corruption in Ralegaon Siddhi. He had also protested against the collusion between 40 forest officials and timber merchants in the same year. The output resulted in rural development of Ralegaon Siddhi and transfer and suspension of these officials. The people of Ralegaon are still praising for his good work. Anna has become more popular after this Aandolan. He has become the hope for the rural people.

The Satyagraha campaign in 2011 by Anna Hazare to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill has created a history. It has been the biggest protest in decades. Millions of Indians were united during this campaign. Annaji went on hunger strike during the Jan Lokpal movement and was also arrested for the same. This Bill was drafted earlier by N. Santosh Hegde, former justice of the Supreme Court of Inida, Prashant Bhushan, a senior lawyer in the Supreme Court and Arvind Kejriwal, a social activist along with members of the India against Corruption movement. These Bill included to place the Prime Minister within the ambit of the proposed Lokpals powers.

The Jan Lokpal Bill made by Anna Hazare created an enormous impact among the Indian citizen which forced the government to rethink about the bill. The fight against corruption by Annaji was still going on in the form of Gandhigiri. All were hoping from Indian government to approve a bill to clean the corruption. But after the announcement of forming a political party by Team Anna, the thousands of Anna Hazare followers were disappointed. People standing by the side of Anna were feeling cheated. Some protested by burning the posters of Anna Hazare in different parts of country. The Gandhi follower seems to have taken a backstage amongst all the protest.

Entering into the political system is the only way to improve it. But people are scared that by entering into the system they might end up becoming a part of it. Because Politics is a dirty game and it has been proved to be dirty in past and also in the present. Anna has also decided to enter mainstream politics as an individual to fight against corruption. Anna has to be very strong to protect him from the disease call corruption which can affect him after entering into Politics. Let us hope for the new beginning in the face of Politics.
