subject: Know Your Hair Restoration Treatment Options [print this page]

There are many methods of hair restoration, and they all have different levels of effectiveness. They also have varying side effects and risks. Of course, what works for you might not work for others. This is why you should learn some of the methods available to you, and then consider trying each one out after researching more.

One of the most well known methods of hair restoration is taking medication. More specifically, many people try taking prescription-strength pills. You can try this since this technique is generally viewed as safe with few major permanent side effects. However, you should know that some medications need to be taken for life or you will stop seeing results. In addition, taking pills will not typically help you grow back the hair you have lost, but it should allow you to stop losing it in the future. Just be aware that some side effects are rather undesirable, and they may even continue after you stop taking the pills.

If hair restoration pills do not work for you, or you do not want to risk the side effects, you can try products that you are supposed to rub onto your scalp. This is usually a gel or foam that you simply apply to your head regularly. However, like pills, you will find that the effects disappear when you stop using this treatment. In addition, the results are not very noticeable since you will not grow anything back, but you might slow down the loss of your locks. It may be worth a try since this type of product can usually be purchased over the counter and is often affordable, especially for a trial use.

Of course, you can always try surgical hair restoration. These days, this usually involves grafting healthy hairs from one part of your head to a balding spot. If you have an experienced doctor doing the treatment, the results may look natural. However, this may not work out for everyone, and not even everyone is a candidate since you do not typically qualify if you are completely bald. In addition, the procedure tends to cost more money, and it is not guaranteed to work for life since you might need another procedure in the future.

You should get to know your options from a local clinic that offers them. You can also simply ask your regular doctor what the available treatments are, since most practitioners should know. Depending on your budget and your comfort level with the treatments, you can try a few options until you find one that works best.
