subject: The Popularity Of Health Spas Continues To Grow [print this page]

Spending time in a day spa or taking a spa break is the best feeling ever, it eases tired muscles, and you can completely relax and shrug off all the stresses of todays hectic pace of life.

Early indications show the potential of water and essential oils for therapeutic purposes were discovered by the Egyptians. Treatments and spas have been around for thousands of years, and well-being philosophies date back as far as 7000BC when olive and sesame oils were thought to have been combined with fragrant plants to create original ointments.

Thermal baths date back to 2000BC in fact at about the time of the Greek philosopher Thales. It is thought that thalassotherapy which is a therapeutic treatment that involves bathing in sea water evolved around this time together with hydrotherapy, (the treatment of ailments by the external use of water) which exercised weakened limbs in a pool.

It was at this time that these treatments came into existence for hygienic and cosmetic purposes along with therapeutic healing using minerals, herbs, teas and essential oils. The Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, built the Great Pyramid around 2700BC, and ancient manuscripts show evidence of the use of fragrant herbs, oils and perfumes that made up healing ointments.

Egypts desire for producing healing ointments for the skin produced substances such as myrrh, frankincense, cinnamon which of course soon became famous. These aromas were potent, and still gave off a faint scent in 1922 during the opening of King Tutankhamens tomb, which had been sealed more than 3,000 years before.

Today spas are found in all corners of the world and there are an ever increasing number of spas in London and other capital cities all of them promoting improved health, eye-catching beauty and enhanced well-being.

There can be no better feeling than the sensation of tired and fatigued muscles unwinding during a relaxing therapeutic spa session, and in fact many hotels in London are now offering spa breaks London and the treatment menu is vast.

Both men and women want to experience the great feeling one gets after a session at a spa and more and more City workers are opting to visit London spas for a bit of pampering, after work or even in their lunch hour. On offer is the application of the aromatic and mineralogical nutrients which when applied in treatments are absorbed by the skin into the underlying tissues of the body and into the blood stream. This can improve the bodily functions, whilst also rejuvenating and restoring the skin.

Many treatments on offer in spas throughout the world can relieve muscular aches and pains, help with rheumatism and arthritis, give relief to scalp and hair conditions, and most definitely be effective against the effects of stress, anxiety and insomnia.

After a session at any spa London you will feel like a new person and treatments can lead to improved and eye-catching looks, and the spas of today is a centre for treatments offering relaxation, unwinding and getting pampered.

A spokesman for Dolphin Square Spa located in the heart of Westminster said all spas London are great, but we think we have that something special, and to prove this we have been awarded the prestigious Best Day Spa 2012 we are proud to have received this accolade. We provide Moroccan-inspired therapies and rituals, and what we offer at our spa was judged by spa-goers who have spent the last year visiting and reviewing day spas across the UK.
