subject: Diary Of A Typical Day In The Life Of A Pi [print this page]

This is not a 9.00 to 5.00 jobThis is not a 9.00 to 5.00 job. It is an exciting, varied and challenging role where no two days are the same. One day you could be giving evidence in court and the next you could be in a high-speed chase covertly following a Target to the airport. Being a Private Detective or Private Investigator does not appeal to everyone as it involves late nights and early mornings, hours of watching a single doorway for someone to come out or hiding in bushes and creeping around in the cold waiting for someone to do something. It also gives you the opportunity to help people find the truth about their situation, prove a persons innocence or guilt or get the evidence needed to make a difference to a victims life. Being a Private Detective is a great job and I take pride in doing it to my best ability.

On this particular day I am in my office checking my emails and writing up a report from the surveillance session carried out the night before. It was a good result as we caught the Target moonlighting at our clients competitors business. The morning flies by and before I know it I am rushing down an early lunch and checking I have all my kit in order including my gymnasium kit as the job is based around the gymnasium. I am not doing this job alone and I meet my colleague we synchronise our watches, check our camera equipment and walkie talkies and drive to the pick up point in separate vehicles.

The surveillance job is to follow a female target who her husband believes is cheating with a man from their gymnasium. We pick up the female Target and follow her. As expected she goes to the gymnasium and takes an aerobics class for an hour. We wait in the restaurant and bar area chatting in our gymnasium kit. When she has had a shower she meets a man in the restaurant. They kiss and embrace and are very close throughout the meal that they share. Once they have eaten they leave the gymnasium in his car and go to a private residence. They get out of the car and go to the house where the male opens the front door with a key and they go in hand in hand. They do not leave the house for around two hours and then the male drives the female Target back to the gymnasium where she drives her own car home.

I give the client a verbal account of the days activities and he asks for another two sessions of surveillance to be carried out later on in the week and he also tells me he would like me to find out who is registered at the address. Once I arrive at the office I look into the occupancy of the house we visited on the job and write-up the report and email it to the client along with the photographs and video footage and who lives at the house. I answer all of the remaining emails I have received and then make a few telephone calls and arrange some more jobs for people. I decide that I have had a busy and productive day and look forward to another day doing the job that I love.
