For profit thrift stores are also in operation. A for profit thrift store is one that is in business to make money. These stores are organized more and have more decorations as well as fixtures. The staff members of these stores are paid; they are not volunteers. When these stores open, they normally look different than a not for profit store. As the month comes to an end, if there is money left after expenses, the owners may give to charity.

Some thrift stores are in operation that has traits of both types of stores. These stores are privately owned and aren't strictly affiliated with a charity. There is normally a combination of paid and volunteer workers on staff. The owners keep the stores nicely decorated and organized. Once the bills are paid, they give money to the charity they want.
