First comes white balance. Setting the right white balance in the images can make your picture look a lot better. Incorrect white balance can set a different impression altogether because of the color cast and reduced saturation. What you have to do here is adjust the temperature and then refine the tint. It controls the relative warmth of the image and the tint controls the magneta green effect. The photographers should pay extra attention to white balance when they are capturing shots in sunsets, indoor lighting and low light images.
Then comes exposure. It is not always possible to get the right kind of exposure everytime you click and that is why exposure is fine tuned. Exposure compensation adjustment tool can be used for getting the accurate exposure. We can use Image histogram. It tells you whether you image has been properly exposed or not and whether there is any problem with lighting. So according to your own requirement, you have to see the histogram and edit the photos accordingly. We have to see whether there is any problem with highlights or shadows and if your software supports it then you might be able to solve the problem using tools like fill light or black point. But one thing you should keep in mind that if any image is looking better edited exposure then let the image be as it is because too much exposure can lead to visible noise which looks worse in shadows and less exposure can make blown highlights apparent.
Then comes noise reduction. Image noise has some types and some of them can be easily removed. Noise from high ISO speed is generally photographers deal with. One should not get rid of noise completely as it may look unnatural at times. There are dedicated software such as neat image, noise ninja, grain surgery etc. and hence if the images are problematic it is always recommended that you use dedicated software. Sharpening is essential in this case here as sharpening increases noise whereas noise reduction decreases sharpness.
Lens correction is another important aspect. It is not always possible that you can correct the problems that occur due to lens. The problems are vignetting, distortion and chromatic aberration. Vignetting occurs when low f-stops are used and if it is due to physical blockage, it cant be corrected. At times some photos look good with vignetting. Distortion can be corrected but this step is not necessary unless it is clearly visible.
