subject: Information About Facelifts For Prospective Patients [print this page]

You may have seen how good many of the celebrities look once they have undergone facelifts. You may even know some people in your own family or your community who have had cosmetic work done on their faces. For some individuals, the end result is utterly amazing! While facelifts may be the right course of action for those people, is it something that you would make a good candidate for?

Facelifts are not right for everybody. Even if you would really, really like to have one, you first need to determine if you would make a suitable candidate for having this type of cosmetic surgery procedure.

A person who would be eligible for a rhytidectomy (the medical term for a facelift) is someone who falls within the age range of 35 to 65 years. The person would also be an individual who has begun to show noticeable signs that their facial skin is beginning to age.

Patients of facelifts can expect a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and lines, as well as a reduction in skin that is sagging and is no longer firm. Having this cosmetic procedure will provide the person who has it with a look that is younger and more energetic. The individual will also come out of the operation looking well rested and rejuvenated.

But that is not all that lifts are able to accomplish. They may improve the look of deep folds that have developed in the skin over the passage of time. Laugh lines would be examples of these. What the lift accomplishes is it lifts the skin to a higher position. This fights the effects of gravity on the skin and brings about a younger looking face that you can be happy to look at in the mirror.

Does your skin still have a fair amount of elasticity left in it? If it does, then you are one step closer to being an eligible candidate for this type of facial plastic surgery. Facelifts work best on those who have enough elasticity in their skin that will allow it to bounce back.

As the aging process takes over, it is natural for the skin to lose some of its elastic quality. It is for this very reason that people over the age of 65 are not thought to be good choices for lifts. This does not mean, however, that a cosmetic surgeon will necessarily refuse to do work on a patient in his or her senior years. What it does mean is that the patient may not be as happy with the final results as a younger person would.

You are more likely to witness a truly successful result if your skin contains enough collagen and elastin to be able to get back to normal as rapidly as possible. This tends to vary from one person to another.
