subject: Your Plastic Surgeon And Botox Injections [print this page]

Botox has become one of Americas favorite ways to fight the signs of aging. We try creams, lotions, and serums and to some extent they help. Most of us want a more significant change and unfortunately we can't find it in those over priced bottles. We turn to diet and exercise and again find that while the change is desirable it is not as dramatic as we had hoped. We might have a sleeker waistline and toner thighs, but those wrinkles stick around. There really doesn't seem to be an answer that truly addresses those wrinkles. If you are not looking for results as dramatic as a face -lift Botox might be the right choice. As with anything cosmetic surgery, invasive or not, we need to go into it with healthy expectations. A consultation with a plastic surgeon may help you determine if Botox is your answer.

Botox is best for helping with wrinkles in the forehead, crows feet, and frown lines. The best candidates are looking for a procedure that isn't permanent, but they must be willing to repeat the procedure for a continued improvement. This procedure is not safe for pregnant or lactating woman. Your plastic surgeon will want to discuss any herbal supplements, vitamins, or other drugs you may take. If you suffer from a neuromuscular disorder this procedure is not right for you. Your physician will be able to answer your questions and concerns and will no doubt address side -effects with you.

Most side- effects are not serious and can be minimized by having a doctor or surgeon that is experienced perform the procedure. Side -effects include temporary eyelid drooping, headache, nausea, redness, swelling and bruising at the injection sites. Due to some of the side -effects you may want to schedule injections for a time when you can stay in. Patients report seeing full benefits of injections between three and seven days after the procedure.

A benefit to the procedure is that it is temporary. If you do not like the procedure the effects will reverse on their own. Results should last between three to six months. The procedure itself takes only one office visit to complete. Most treatments require multiple injections and perhaps more than one site. Your plastic surgeon will ask you to make faces that highlight the muscles they want to treat. This action will assist them in placing injections where they will be most effective. Botox is a fast, and effective way to get rid of those wrinkles.
