subject: Seo Strategy - Incoming Links And Seo Strategy [print this page]

If you truly want your site to succeed in the search engines, a major part of your SEO strategy must focus on the importance of incoming links. The process of submitting your site to the search engines can take from a few weeks to several months. However, even a new site will be indexed rapidly, if it has incoming links.

Google explains that, "The best way to ensure Google finds your site, is for your pages to be linked from lots of pages on other sites. Google's robots jump from page to page on the Web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to you, the more likely it is that we'll find you quickly."

You can increase incoming links rapidly by participating in forums, provided you use your URL in your signature. Google does not however, appear to give a much weight to this type of incoming link. Submitting to so called link farms is a poor way to attempt to increase links to your site, and is strongly discouraged by Google Guidelines. "Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links."

When it comes to finding incoming links to your website, there simply are no short cuts. The key to success in the search engines is good old-fashioned hard work!

Research and find websites with relevant content. These sites should also be a good resource for your site visitors. Send each of site owner a PERSONAL email requesting a link. The use of form letters for this method is not effective. People delete these emails every day. Explain in your request why it would be a benefit for BOTH sites to exchange links.

Spend the time necessary to find all RELEVANT directories where you can submit your site for inclusion. How much time should you spend? As long as it takes! This is an ongoing process that you will need to focus your attention on a REGULAR basis!
