subject: House Cleaning Tips And Tricks [print this page]

In our efforts to minimize the demands of domestic house cleaning, we are always looking for simple house cleaning tips or tricks or advice on practical methods to use for home cleaning. Many old traditional household remedies which went out of fashion as new cleaning products were invented, are now regaining their lost popularity. This may be because of the new consciousness amongst customers that natural products may be Greener and therefore less invasive, both for the objects they want to clean and the home environment itself. In addition there is the problem of cost, and the overwhelming choice the customer is presented with when contemplating the massive range of cleaning products and devices available.

Traditionally windows were literally cleaned with vinegar and newspaper this is a domestic house cleaning method that can be adapted, possibly leaving out the newspaper, but incorporating the vinegar. Probably the quickest way to make a house look clean, from both the inside and the outside, is to clean the windows. Plain white vinegar can be used for a number of cleaning jobs when combined with baking soda, itself invaluable for house cleaning, it is a potent force for things like cleaning drains. When sinks in kitchens and bathrooms start to get blocked or emit an unpleasant smell, they can be treated as follows: a kettle full of boiling water poured down the drain will help to clear any debris which may be blocking the pipes. Then a cup of baking soda can be put down the sink and washed down with 2 cups of vinegar. This produces a satisfying fizzy effect that clears the drain and produces a fresh, pleasant smell that does not reek of chemicals.

The same baking soda/vinegar combination can be used as part of your domestic house cleaning program to descale kettles. Instead of purchasing a product for eliminating lime-scale that leaves your kettle with a repulsive odor and the necessity to rinse innumerable times to get rid of noxious chemicals, just make a paste out of baking soda and vinegar and apply it to the inside of the base of the kettle and all affected areas. Adding a little more vinegar or even some water and leaving it for half an hour to fizz gently will loosen up the limescale and make it easy to remove. Lemon juice can be used with baking soda in the same way for the same results with an even more pleasing smell. Both methods work well to rescue the burnt out blacked pans that you get when you leave something on the cooker too long by mistake.

If clean windows are the most important part of your domestic house cleaning regime, clean bathrooms would have to come a close second. Both are essential for those occasions when it is vital to make a good impression on important visitors, for example. Beyond the usual bathroom cleaning routine, the one part we often neglect is the tiles, or in particular the grout once again baking soda made into a paste with water or vinegar can make a huge difference to brightness of your bathroom tiles. Simply apply the paste, leave for half an hour, use an old toothbrush on obstinate stains, and wipe off with a clean cloth. Another example of home cleaning made easy.
