Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) is a business school headquartered in New Delhi, with 18 branches across India. Founded in 1973, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in National economic planning and Entrepreneurship, as well as international and fellowship programmes. Its executive education programs also include non-credit courses and visits at foreign business schools. the institute has been the subject of tax issues which have been resolved, trade practices investigations which have been suspended, as well as media reports on controversies with respect to its advertising and ranking. In 2011, IIPM was ranked the 5th best business school in India and the 2011 Best B-school in Asia overall among B-schools from 29 countries at the second Asia's Best B-School awards.
History
IIPM was started in 1973 in New Delhi. According to the institute, its "first residential full-time post graduate diploma program" started in the year 1974 after selection tests were conducted in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore. Currently, the institute has 18 branches across India, including in Gurgaon, Noida, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Jaipur, Dehradun, and Cochin.
The Founding Director of IIPM is Dr. M. K. Chaudhuri, and the Honorary Dean is Arindam Chaudhuri.
Facilities and faculty
IIPM has a three acre campus in New Delhi, and 17 branches across India, including Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Pune, Gurgaon and Hyderabad. The infrastructure of the main campus includes classrooms, teaching aids, libraries, electronic libraries, IT equipment like Wi-Fi and laptops, and leisure equipment like a gymnasium and swimming pool; the facilities at the branches vary, but are usually less extensive. It has over 10,000 books in the Delhi libraries, with access to several other libraries through sharing agreements.
Arindam Chaudhuri is Honorary Dean of IIPM. The regular faculty of the institute comprises alumni of IIPM, as well as visiting professors. About 20% of its faculty have a doctoral degree. According to the Financial Times, IIPM has been successful in getting "many top international professors to teach in India." Unlike most other business schools, the school has also built up its teaching faculty in India by recruiting its own graduating MBA students.

The institute does not by itself award BBA or MBA degrees; it awards certificates for its students, who then can optionally apply for degrees from allied institutions. Since 2010, IIPM students optionally get MBA/BBA degrees from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, a UGC recognized university. IIPM is the "on-site academic partner of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University which grants its degrees to IIPM students. Students of Indian School of Business and Economics (ISBE), run by IIPM, have a distance-learning degree arrangement with Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.
Accreditation
The certifications offered directly by IIPM are not accredited by AICTE, a regulating body for technical education in India, whose accreditation is a voluntary process. According to IIPM, its courses do not come under the purview of AIU, AICTE, UGC and similar government-established regulatory bodies.
In March 2009, IIPM received the "candidate for accreditation" status from International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), an accreditation body for college and university programs.
