subject: Upgrading To Rental Homes [print this page]

For many, rental homes can be just as accessible as renting an apartment. However, many do not realize this is an option to them. They may spend a good deal of time looking at apartments to live in and become frustrated with the lack of space or privacy. With a house, on the other hand, this is more of an option. Keep in mind you get what you pay for, but sometimes, the price difference is insignificant compared to what's presented to you. Instead of just looking for options in apartments, consider if you can move into a house instead.

More Space and Features

One of the key benefits of rental homes instead of apartments is the added space. You may find that your family is just outgrowing the smaller space. If you are looking for three or four bedroom properties, then you may need to consider a house instead. However, keep in mind that with many homes, the size of those bedrooms is going to be larger as well.

Additionally, the type and amount of features will range differently with a house. For example, you may have your own driveway and garage for you vehicle. You may not have additional bathrooms or even a den. You may have access to laundry facilities in the space. You get a full kitchen rather than a wall with an oven, refrigerator and a sink. Consider all that comes with a house that you are lacking.

The Outdoors

One of the biggest drawbacks of renting an apartment is the lack of space outdoors. Even if there is shared spaces, you still do not get the level of privacy that you want. Sometimes, the houses available to you, though, can offer fenced in yards with swing sets for the kids and areas for you to relax. If you long to have a space outdoors to enjoy, an apartment will not work.

Privacy

Perhaps the biggest benefit of making this switch is the gain in privacy you will have. There is no long sleeping on the other side of the wall. There is plenty of room between you and the neighbor. Even if you live in a condo with shared walls, you still have more room to spread out and feel at home in. This level of privacy can make all of the difference to some people.

Before you rent another apartment, consider the options in upgrading to rental homes instead. Check out the area options and find out just how different the pricing is. It may not be nearly as high as you thought. It does come with bigger utility costs and potentially higher maintenance costs, but for many this is well worth it. Find out if this is an option for you.
