No matter what your 5th grade art teacher told you, everyone has a creative side, even you. There are many ways to be artistic and its up to you to discover your own unique talents and interests. Getting in touch with your artistic nature wont be hard; you just need to open yourself up to learning and taking action. Make a List Write down all of the artistic pursuits and interests you currently have or desire to have. Whether it be singing, painting or sculpting, dont be shy about it. Even if youve failed miserably in the past, that doesnt mean you cant try again and really enjoy yourself. Take Action After youve made your list, its time to take action. If cubist painting is your goal, then youve got to purchase an paint easel and painting supplies. If you want to be a photographer, youve got to start taking photographs of everything. Youll never learn or progress sitting on the couch with a hoagie watching reruns of Law and Order. Be Yourself This saying is certainly a clich, but that doesnt make it any less truthful. The best part about art is that its an expression of you and you alone. You are a unique individual and you have unique gifts to offer the art world. Work on developing your own personal style. Find Inspiration It can be hard to know where to start. If youre feeling a little less than enchanted, look to other forms of art for inspiration. Start reading interesting books and poems, watch films you never thought you would, check out local galleries and listen to a wide variety of musical genres.
