subject: Is It Time To Start Thinking About Stairlifts? [print this page]

When you get to that time in your life where youre not as active as you once were, you might start to think about downsizing to a new home. Family homes are perfect for raising a family, but once your children have flown the nest, it can sometimes be too much to care for a large house. However, many people are reluctant to leave the house they have spent years transforming into a home and are keen to try and stay there for as long as possible. In such situations it can be heartbreaking to consider having to move based purely on the logistics of getting from one place to another. Thankfully, however, the quality and affordability of mobility devices has ensured that these options are a lot more accessible to people. Whether its a mobility scooter or electric wheelchair to help you inside and outside the home or a stairlift to take some of the effort out of getting around your home, there are literally dozens of time and labour saving devices on the market.

Mobility scooters have never been so popular and now that they have moved a long way from their image as only suitable for the particularly elderly and infirm, many people have decided to opt for one. However, there is a wide range of choice and finding something suitable can be problematic. So, if you havent bought a mobility scooter before, here are a few things to look out for:

Range is one of the most important considerations and this will largely depend on the size of the battery and speed of the scooter. If you want to cover distances of more than a few miles each day, you might want to opt for a more robust model with a larger battery life and better speed. This will certainly put the price up a little, but will be worth it in the long run as the last thing you want to do is spend hours getting somewhere when it could just take minutes. Clearly, if you have a lot of distance to cover, you need a scooter that has a good range and this will usually mean a larger battery and bigger scooter. However, if you just want something for quickly popping out to the local shop, then you might like to consider one of the new generation of micro scooters, which employ the latest lithium batteries to give you unparalleled speed and range without a large and bulky frame.
