subject: Ppi Complaints Increased By 75 Percent To Ombudsman [print this page]

In first half of the year 2012 the number of complaints about the PPI has increased by seventy five percent. As per the estimates the new complaints about PPI are around 85562 which are filed to FOS in the period of 1st 6 months of the current year, in comparison with the 49,419 in the second half of the year 2011 that was a rise of 73 per cent.

Barclays till date has attracted by far the most number of PPI complaints, at an amount of 19,522 which was more than twofold as many as the Lloyds TSB which has received 9,493. Next was the firm MBNA that was attracted around 6,724, after that there is Black Horse division of Lloyds which got 5,908, Capital One is after that with 5,594 numbers as well as HSBC being 5,051.

It was also a similar tale when it came to the total number of grievances, with the Barclays bank got almost 23,703, that was twice as many as Lloyds TSB, which had received 12,235 number of complaints. Though the number of PPI complaints had gone quite high up dramatically, but it did not alike the numbers which was made in the 1st six months of last year 2011, as at that point of time almost 1 lac people had authority to the ombudsman. The plunge in the 2nd part of 2011 was because of the banks that had given more period of time in evaluating claims because of the result of a judicial review. More number of customers are now making their complaints on their own, to a certain extent than relying on the claims management firms, that might take fat percentages of any reimbursement honoured to the customers. Natalie Ceeney one of the chief executive of the FOS as well as chief ombudsman, had to say that they have seen an increasing shift towards the consumers doing it on their own to a certain extent than taking the services of a claims manager, with up to half of all the new complaints now shooting in a straight line from the side of the customers without paid-for representation, in comparison with less than 20 per cent a year ago. This simply means that their consumer front-line is busier than ever now taking more than 3,000 calls on PPI in a single & disclosing the much required transparency to the customers who are puzzled and befuddled.
