subject: 4 Things You Should Never Eat [print this page] Nowadays, everyone is always looking for the next best thing when it comes to losing weight and dieting. There are many consumers out there who have done their research and maintain generally healthy diets as well. However, no matter how good you try to be from day to day we are still human and will have our slip-ups from time to time. The trick is to make sure that these slip-ups or "cheater days" don't cause too much damage to your overall healthy diet. If you are already a healthy eater, trying to change your habits for the better, or just starting out with a healthy lifestyle the project of your health is never finished. Below I'll tell you about four foods that you should NEVER eat. No matter how good these foods may sound now and then, the cost to your health and your journey towards a healthy lifestyle is simply too great.
1)Anything that has been deep fried
Donuts, French fries, chicken fingers, onion rings - these are just a few examples of foods that will break your diet. Deep fried foods may start out sounding healthy, but the minute they go into that sizzling oil they become loaded with more fat than you need in an entire day. They also pack incredible amounts of calories without leaving you feeling even remotely full and they can even exacerbate a variety of health conditions. Eating deep fried foods can trigger acid reflux and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and make achieving normal blood sugar levels and weight loss more difficult for people with Type 2 Diabetes. As good as it might sound at the time, the price you pay for eating deep fried foods just isn't worth it!
2)White Bread
White bread - basically your typical Wonder Bread - has minimal nutritional value. It's completely synthetic, there's nothing natural about it, and your body quickly converts it into sugar. If you eat white bread, you might as well have eaten a cupcake! Just like other sugary products, white bread causes your blood sugar to spike then quickly plummet, making you feel hungry again even though you've eaten more than enough calories. Instead, stick to multi-grain or sprouted grain bread that is found in the refrigerated section. A good rule of thumb is to make sure the ingredient list is short and you recognize everything the bread is made of. Stay away from long lists of preservatives that you can't even pronounce!
3)Creamy Salad Dressings
Ok so you decided to be good today and order a salad at lunch with your friends instead of a burger. But be careful, you aren't in the clear just yet! Creamy salad dressings - like ranch, thousand island, and blue cheese - are loaded with hundreds of calories and excessive amounts of saturated and trans fats. Shoot for something with a balsamic or vinaigrette dressing and always order the dressing on the side. Restaurants tend to "over-dress" their salads to the point of having your lettuce swimming at the bottom of the bowl. Also, avoid salads that come with cheese, nuts, and other fatty foods; instead stick to the salads that are made with dark leafy greens and include lots of other vegetables.
4)High Fructose Corn Syrup
If there is one category of food that can completely destroy your progress and cause you to gain weight, it's sugar. Just like white bread, sugar spikes your blood sugar then makes you crash and feel hungry far too soon. But as bad as sugar is, it has been topped with another substance that is even worse for your body. High fructose corn syrup has long been a subject of controversy and many studies have now been done that substantiate claims of its risks. For example, in a Princeton study researchers found that rats that had access to high fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those who only ingested regular sugar even though their caloric intake was the same. When you have that sweet tooth craving now and again, stick to things made of real sugar and don't undo all your hard work!
Eating healthy is hard work. Keep in mind having a healthy lifestyle and diet is a marathon, not a sprint. Nobody is perfect but if you can avoid these four foods you will be much better off! Keep up your healthy eating habits, exercise often, and be active every day and you are well on your way to losing weight and achieving your fitness goals.
