subject: Make Sure To Feed Up Your Pup! [print this page]

. Having a dog from it being a puppy, and it growing up from the start in your own home will have its benefits when training. You will also be able to make sure it is getting all of the right nutrients that it needs.

Just like a child, a puppy will grow up and feeding it the right food from a young age will make sure that their body is given the best chance to grow into its full potential. You should create a plan to ensure that you stick to a sensible feeding program. For a small pup you will be surprised at how much food they need for their development, and you will want to make sure you are buying the right type too. There are so many different brands to choose from that it can be difficult to choose.

If you have an older dog which has had puppies, meaning that they have been in your care from birth, you usually need to wait until they are 6 weeks old until they can weaned from their mothers milk and able to start eating solid foods. For the 2 weeks after this time the pups will need twice the amount of nutrients that adults require, which is why specially designed puppy food was created. This food will make sure it receives a good amount of protein for strength, iron for healthy blood, calcium for strong teeth and bones and also enough calories to last them after all the running round they get up to!

You should purchase dry dog food but do not give it to your puppy simply like this, you should add 1 mix of warm water to 3 parts of the food so it becomes softer and easier for a pup to chew and swallow. Leave this out for one hour before taking it away, as it will start to lose its taste after this time and not be very appealing. Small breed pups need to be fed 3 times a day, whilst larger breeds twice a day. At certain ages the levels, this routine will need to be changed depending on the breed. Make sure that if you have any questions to carry out some research online or ask a vet for advice, and then you can lead your pup into a happy adult life!
