subject: Learning To Drive [print this page]

Learning to drive for many people is an essential part of life. Being able to have freedom and take yourself to somewhere without having to rely on others is a fantastic feeling. Of course nothing in the world comes cheaply and having driving lessons and taking theory and practical tests all adds up. However if you need to be able to drive yourself at work or live far away from family and friends it will change your life and be worth every penny.

If you know in advance that you are going to learn to drive but perhaps are too busy to do it right now or need to save up some money first, it is a great time to start revising for your theory. If you read up and understand the basics and let them sink into your brain, learning to drive will become easier. The Highway Code teaches you everything you need to know and then it will just leave it to the lessons to put these into practice. The earlier you get to grips with the theory the better.

You will learn about the different types of crossings, roundabouts, junctions, driving on different types of roads and so much more. The basics that you are taught on your first lesson is about how to adjust your mirrors, learning to check in your car wing mirrors before signalling and then checking again before moving off safely. You will learn about the biting point and pulling away in the car in first gear. If you have already read up on these things then you will be able to move onto the next stage quicker.

If you have done a lot of research and revision for you theory, put in for the actual test. You do not have to be learning how to drive practically to take the theory test. It is a great way to get this bit out of the way so when it comes to learning the practical you can solely concentrate on this. You need to have passed your theory before taking the practical too so you can book in for your practical as soon as you are ready rather than waiting to complete the theory part.

Once you pass and finally swap your green license card for a pink one you will feel so happy! Going out and buying your first car and being able to drive to wherever you want to will feel so free.
