The foundations of chiropractic care date back thousands of years. The earliest known evidence of chiropractic care comes from ancient Greece and China, which dates from 2700 B.C. and 1500 B.C. These writings mention healing lower back pain through lower extremity movement and spine manipulation. Perhaps one of the most influential writings in regards to chiropractic care is from the Greek physician Hippocrates. Throughout his life, he published writings that the declared the importance of understanding and manipulating the spine in order to correct various diseases and ailments.

While the incorporation of chiropractic care in Eastern civilizations has been discussed for several millennia, in the United States chiropractic care didnt rush to forefront of mainstream knowledge until the late 19th century. In America, the earliest chiropractic professional was a man named Daniel David Palmer. Throughout his tenure as a chiropractic professional he was continually published in esteemed medical journals and in 1897 he founded the Palmer School of Chiropractic. This institution remains one of the most respected chiropractic institutions in the United States.

As the 20th century approached and passed, chiropractic practice began to swell in acceptance among health care circles. Physicians realized through the work spearheaded by Daniel David Palmer, many ailments could be corrected or relieved by manipulating the spine and its parts. As the decades passed, the recognition of chiropractic care began sweeping the world.

The involvement of chiropractic care in the health care industry has only strengthened as time has gone by. In 1979, a report beckoned health care professionals to incorporate chiropractic care alongside standard medicine practices. As chiropractic care infiltrated the medical industry, physicians around the world began seeing the true benefit this practice has on the health and livelihood of all persons.

As time moved on, the question of chiropractic care and cost effectiveness began circulating throughout medical circles. To clarify the potential savings this practice would have on the health care industry, a 1993 Manga study released astonishing results. According to this study, researchers found chiropractic care could potentially save hundreds of millions of dollars per year when it comes to health care costs and disability payments.

Since the introduction of chiropractic care the medical industry has embraced this practice. Throughout the years, chiropractic procedures have developed to treat a wide array of ailments. Through continued research and delving into the specifics of how the skeletal system determines the health of other bodily systems, chiropractic care has moved into the forefront of prevention and treatment.
