The tool will actually cut the extra tail in the head of the tie in order to avoid the sharp edge of the zip tie. Once the sharp edge is cut it will no longer cause any injury to its user. Aside from the cable tensioning device, companies also utilize fire and ultraviolet lighting in order to check the quality of their products. The reason for this is that zip ties are actually designed for any kind of environment. Each cable is combined with over 2% of carbon black, a certain kind of compound which is designed to improve polymer chains and to extend the life of each zip tie. The stainless steel cables are coated with a compound designed to prevent any form of galvanic attack. Of course, not all zip ties are added with the carbon black compound. The ties which are used in the food industry contain no metal additives and no other compounds which can cause toxicity.
