subject: Picking Carpet Or Laminate Floors [print this page]

Everyday we all walk through our homes and think nothing more to the floor that is underneath our feet. Floors can become neglected and start to look worn away, of course having quality flooring laid down beforehand will make sure that it stays looking in great condition. Children are the main culprits for wrecked flooring but there are ways to prevent it from looking worn out.

If you have laid down cream carpet in the living room, perhaps a year before the bundle of joy that is now your son and daughter came into the world, you may be regretting your decision now. Whilst little ones change your life for the best, they can also wreck your house for the worst! Hands dipped in paint, crayons at the ready, food falling from their mouth, are just a few of the every day problems you will face. If the cream carpet is now receiving comments from family members like "why did you choose a grey carpet?" then you may want to take action.

You can hire or even purchase thorough cleaning machines for carpets. Vacuuming alone will not allow you to get up all of the dirt that is locked in the fibres. You could always purchase a new carpet in a darker shade such as a chocolate brown, or even create a whole new look with laminate flooring? Many mums and dads will be thinking this is not really practical for a little one who can barely stand on their two feet. You may wish to keep the old looking carpet until they are about 2 years old and then make the change. When looking for flooring, finding something that is of a high quality and that has also been treated and varnished is important and key to it lasting for many years to come.

Laminate floors make life so much simpler and will cut down the amount of vacuuming taking place. If you do have a child that is your main concern there are large rugs which can be purchased in a wide collection of styles, materials and patterns that could cover up most of the space and allow them a safe and comfortable place to play. If they are sit in a high chair and any food happens to drop on the floor it can simply be wiped up without a fuss needed, unlike if your fluffy cream carpet was below.
