subject: Britannic Technologies Look Back Over The Best Ever Phones In Movies [print this page] Weve reached the point where none of us can imagine having to survive more than a couple of hours apart from our phones, whether for work or pleasure. The idea that we might miss the very phone call that could change everything is too stressful a burden to bear, and Britannic Technologies have known this longer than most. But fictional phones are just as important; theyve been playing a vital role in the lives of our favourite on-screen characters for years. Here are five movies that just wouldnt be the same without their phones.
Sleepless in Seattle
It all started with a radio talk show, and if Jonah hadnt given the station his dads phone number the rest would definitely not have been romantic history. Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) had two receivers perfect for three-way conversations with the talk show host that would entice the lovely Annie (Meg Ryan).
Zoolander
Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) was the really, really, ridiculously good-looking male model that had us in stitches during the early noughties. He had a signature look, a lower IQ than your average houseplant and a really, really, ridiculously small mobile phone. But hey, he took some crucial calls on that thing, and weve all thought that size matters at one time or another.
Juno
Using the phone may not have affected Juno (Ellen Page)s fate a great deal, but she used her hamburger phone to communicate some pretty important information, despite the fact that its kind of awkward to talk on. If her call to procure a hasty abortion had put her more at ease the story might have ended differently.
Mean Girls
Have you ever been attacked with a surprise three-way? Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) was. She survived, just, but maybe if shed been that bit crueler the meaner girls would have cut her out right then and there. Cady would have lived happily ever after, but wed be down a really brilliant movie.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
E.T. phone home must be one of the most famous movie quotes of all time, though of course this phone was a bit lost in translation; E.T. had to gather a few bits and pieces before he could get try to get through to his own kind, including a Speak & Spell toy. Still, though, Steven Spielbergs masterpiece wouldnt have been the same without it.
