subject: Brunch At Carafe Cafe, The Peninsula Grand, Mumbai [print this page] The busy and buzzing Saki Naka is home to a number of hotels and restaurants. And amid the many options stands tall The Peninsula Grand. We were aware about their Sion sibling but this was a revelation to us also. But a good one nonetheless!
One fine day team Buzzintown decided to visit the place and we were welcomed at their fairly spacious 24 -hour coffee shop, Carafe Cafe. As we made ourselves comfortable with a quick word with the chef, we were served Fruity Delight, a mixed fruit based mocktail (too sweet) and Sangria (delightfully refreshing).
Ready to sample the Brunch, we began our foodie journey at Carafe Caf. Going by the norm, salad counter was the first that we attacked and luckily it didnt disappoint at all. Served in individual portions, this was perhaps, one of the more innovative salad layouts that we had come across in some time. The Beans and Apple Salad, Carrot Salad and the Chicken Hawaiin Salad are a must-try!
The Green Peas soup, which was their soup for the day was less on spice. Seems, it was prepared keeping in mind the hotels International patrons. But still, a dash of seasoning could have made it better.
We also tried some special starters. While their non-vegetarian platter was an eye-candy for a non-veg lover, vegetarian platter was no less inviting. We recommend, the tender & less creamy Chicken Reshmi Kebab, adequately juicy & perfectly cooked, Tandoori Jalpari (Pomfret) had a tangy flavor of ajwain, Mutton Sheekh Kebab, and Chicken Pahadi for the special mix of masalas used.
From the Veg platter, you must try Paneer Tikka Kali Mirch, Peninsula Tikki as it was the twist in the tale of usual Paneer Tikkas, which are usually made in red or green marinate. Also try their Veg Crispy. Nothing new about it but it was the taste that hooked us.
The main-course was an exercise in choice. From Naram Dil Kebabs, Sabzi Mili Juli, Rajma, Dal Tadka, Burmese Noodles there was something to suit every palate. Our personal favourite was Sabzi Mili Juli and Paneer. Non-vegetarians can enjoy Murgh Afgani and Fish Tandoori. Dont forget to try their Cheese naan, which stands out in their bread basket.
Dessert table was like a jackpot for a sweet lover! While they have a variety of desserts on offer including gooey Chocolate Cake, creamy Mousse and piping hot Moon Dal Halwa, their signature dish Madhur Milan is what you cant miss. A delectable mlange of gulab jamuns, boondi and rabdi this one is as rich in taste and calories alike!
Madhur Milan can be one of the many reasons for you to visit Carafe Caf, which is usually thronged by professionals looking for a quick grub, airline staff and transit passengers due to its location.
