subject: Realizing The Power Of Belief [print this page] As I sit here on a plane from Indianapolis to Atlanta. I began to think of all the amazing things that has happened to me. And I attribute it all to my belief. I realized my first experience with the power of belief in 1985. I was a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corp, stationed in Camp Pendleton, Ca. I used to play this video game in our tv room all the time. It was a type of game that you would fight wars against different countries. And in order to move on to the next country, you had to win each war. The final country to win a war against, was Japan. I had recently taken leave and went to Iwakuni, Japan to visit my cousin, who was also in the Marine Corps. After that, I wanted to get stationed in Japan. Once I was back, I started playing the game again, and I told my friends, if I make it to Japan on this game, I'm going to get orders to Japan. Low and behold, I made it to a war with Japan. I started yelling, I was going to Japan. Needless to say, no one believed me. But, for some reason, I had this burning belief, that I was getting stationed in Japan. Not even two weeks later, I received orders to be stationed in Okinawa, Japan. They believed me then!
I've gone through many life experiences which my belief has brought me through the down ones. And this was before I read any books about the power of belief. In this world, there are so many things that people doesn't realize is possible, if they just believe in themselves, and the possibilities that can happen. Everything doesn't have to be physically in front of you, for you to believe something is real, or something will happen. Take for instance, you waking up in the morning. You have no doubt, that you will wake up the next morning. You don't think about it, but you believe it will happen.
Let me tell you of another instance. While I was in Okinawa, Japan, I designed my own suits and had them made. When I returned to the states and got out of the Marine Corps, I moved to Seattle, Wa. I planned to start a fashion designing business with a friend I met in California. Well, that didn't work out too well. So, I ended up working a telemarketing job, because I couldn't find any other jobs. That didn't work well, and I ended up jobless, with an apartment I had to pay for, with no idea how I was going to pay my rent next month. For some reason, I didn't worry about it. I believed that something would work out for me. One day, I was catching a bus to a female friend of mine's house. I switched buses in downtown Seattle. While waiting at the bus stop, a few feet from me, I noticed a woman's purse, just sitting on the ground. I began to wonder, why is a woman's purse just sitting on the ground, and no one near it. So, I just nonchalantly walked over to it, bent down, and picked it up. Mind you, there were other people at the bus stop waiting also. And they watched while I did it. I looked in the purse, and there was nothing in it except an envelope. I opened the envelope, and there was nothing but cash money. I was shocked. Not only that there was money in it, but there was about $600 in it. And my rent was only $300. I put the money in my pocket, and nicely put the purse back where I got it. When I moved away, another guy picked up the purse to look in it for himself. I guess he thought he would find something in it too. That made me a major believer of the unknown.
Those were just a few instances I had with the power of belief. There has been many more. I know there are those out there who only believes in what they can see. But there's more to this world than the mind can imagine. I'm not saying I have all the answers on how things work, but I do know what has worked for me. And as long as it continues to work, I will continue to Believe.
