subject: No Suitcase Should Be Without Trainers And Plimsolls [print this page]

Summer has come to an end for another year which means only one thing, winter is fast on its way whether we like it or not. There will be some out there who perhaps did not have the time to take a trip abroad and are currently to book an adventure overseas. If you are one of those people then when packing your suitcase you need to remember a few vital items.

Of course, tickets, money and passport are the top priority when preparing for your trip, but you also need to fill a suitcase full of appropriate clothing for your chosen destination. As well as sorting through all the tops, t-shirts, shorts and jeans that you will need, you also need to give serious thought to the type of footwear most likely to complement your outfits.

Those footwear lovers who appreciate fashion trends and always like to stay one step ahead of the rest in the fashion stakes will own a pair of trainers, plimsolls and high tops. These three types of footwear are only similar in the sense that they are of course worn on the feet, however in terms of style and wear ability they differ massively.

We all know what a pair of trainers look like, but for those of a younger age may not be familiar with the hi-top and plimsoll. The high top trainer was first popularised in the 80s by many NBA basketball players, most notably Michael Jordan, and consists of an extra layer of material stretching over the ankle area, originally designed to prevent players sustaining ankle injuries.

As a result of their popularity they became a global phenomenon and many major footwear brands began designing options for the general public. After experiencing a slight lull in status since that time, hi-tops are once again flying off the shelves of many retailers.

In contrast, the plimsoll is a canvas-based with a rubber sole that many people will associate with their school days when it was more commonly known as a pump. Extremely lightweight and soft on the feet, the plimsoll is versatile and can look at home with a pair of denims as much as a stylish pair of shorts or a skirt. Plimsolls also tend to come in a hugely varied colour range and are one of the most affordable forms of footwear on the market.

So get packing and choose your footwear wisely.
