subject: Rectangles [print this page]

A plane figure in the form of a quadrilateral with four right angles. Its area is the product of the lengths of its adjacent sides. It becomes a square if its adjacent sides are equal length.

Learning rectangles - problems:

rectangle

Learning formula of area of rectangles:

Area of the rectangle = length of the rectangle x width of the rectangle.

The unit of area is measured in square units.

Learning formula for perimeter of rectangles:

The path that surrounds the area is called perimeter.

Perimeter of the rectangle = 2(length of rectangle + width of rectangle).

Learning Informations about Rectangles:

Rectangle is a quadrilateral with four sides.

Opposite sides of the rectangle will be equal

Diagonals will be same for the rectangle

The sides of the rectangle are length and width.

Length is the longer side of the rectangle and width is the shorter side of the rectangle.

The sum of the angles of the rectangle is 360 and each angle is 90 degree

By knowing the length and width of the rectangle we can find the area of the rectangle using the formula.

Learning Model Problems of Rectangles:

Pro 1:Calculate the area of rectangle of length 10 m and width 5 m.

Solution:Step 1: Length of the rectangle = 10m.

Step 2: Width of the rectangle = 5m.

Step 3: Area of the rectangle = length x width.

Step 4: Now we need to multiply 10 x 5.

Step 5: So the answer is 50 square meters.

Pro 2:Find the perimeter of the rectangle if the length is 8 cm and width is 4 cm

Solution:Step 1: Length of the rectangle = 8 cm.

Step 2: Width of the rectangle = 4 cm.

Step 3: Perimeter of the rectangle =2 (length + width).

Step 4: Now we need to simplify 2 (8 + 4).

Step 5: So the answer is 2x12 = 24cm

Learning example problems of rectangles:

Ex -3:Find the length of the rectangle if area of rectangle is 54 square meter and width is 6m.

Solution:Step 1: Area of the rectangle = 54 square meter.

Step 2: Width of rectangle = 6 meter.

Step 3: Length of rectangle = '(54)/(6)'

Step 4: So, the answer is 9 meter.

Ex : 4Find the width of the rectangle if the area of rectangle is 108 square cm and length = 12 cm.

SolutionStep 1: Area of rectangle = 108 Square cm.

Step 2: Length of rectangle = 12 cm.

Step 3: Width of rectangle = '(108)/(12)'

Step 4: The answer is 9 cm.
