subject: Christmas Vacations At Malvan Beach [print this page] Last year during Christmas we had four days of vacations so we decided to get refreshed by visiting one of the nearby destinations from Mumbai. I asked Sarita, my wife about her plans she suggested for an outing of three to four days. Visiting some other state was out of question, so we checked for a spot nearby Mumbai that offered better entertainment and fun. We received details of a destination called Malvan which is located on the route from Mumbai to Goa. As we hail from south we were not aware of this place in the Konkan region. Sarita told me that visiting Malvan could serve dual purpose of enjoying fun and at the same time we will get introduced to Konkan region of Maharashtra. We didnt had much time to book hotels in Malvan prior leaving Mumbai, so decided to book it on arrival.
We gathered more information about how to travel to Malvan by train from our friends in office. We caught train for Goa from CST as per instructions and got down at a station called Sindhudurga. The journey after crossing Mumbai city limits was excellent and enjoyable. We got down at Sindhudurga and from there we caught an auto rickshaw to reach Malvan city.
As we were not able to book our hotel from Mumbai the great task of finding a suitable hotel in Malvan was challenge standing before us. One of the shopkeepers assisted us by giving reference of a budget hotel near Malvan beach. He told us that by staying at this hotel we can comfortably visit nearby sight seeing destinations. We called the hotel and inquired about accommodation for a couple. Luckily there were a few vacant rooms in the hotel. We caught an auto and went to the hotel. It was already 6 pm in the evening, we got refreshed had a nice ginger tea and relaxed for some time. With the guidance from hotel staff we reached nearby Malvan beach and were amazed to watch the scenic sunset at backdrop of the Malvan fort.
When we talked to the reception about sight seeing arrangements, they promised to make available A/C or non A/C car for local sight seeing purpose. Next morning we had a breakfast in our room itself. By the time we finished our breakfast the car we booked for sightseeing arrived. We selected non A/C option as the climate was not severe. After a daylong travelling, we had a good dinner at the hotel which has its own restaurant providing delectable local and interstate cuisines. Great thing to enjoy during the stay is getting taste of incredible Malvan cuisine and variety of sea food available in the hotels. Local people are friendly and cooperative. Malvani restaurants here are a great treat for foodies opting for fish delicacies. This region adjacent to Arabian Sea is developed as the best tourist destination near Mumbai. Snorkeling, house boat and other facilities at beaches of Malvan are really great. After staying for four days at this destination we returned back to Mumbai with good memories of our recent trip.
