There are many shooting technique that must be known for each cameraman. Some shooting technique using camera such as:
1. Establishing Shot (ES)
Establishing Shot is a technique of taking pictures / shooting taken from a great distance or from a "birds eye view". This technique usually done to build scene and give focus related with where the location taken.
2. Long Shot (LS)
Long shot is a technique of shooting that done from a distance, but not so far as to establish shot. Long shot use emphasis on the surrounding environment or setting the scene.
3. Medium Shot (MS)
Shooting for making frames actor. Usually done from the waist up. Medium shot (MS) may be used to make people focus on two actors facing each other and interact each other, for example: debating, hugging and so forth.
4. Over Tehe Shoulder Shot (OS)
Shooting To shoot an actor from another actor's shoulder, used when the actors and each other talking face to face. For example one actor speaking with another actor, while the others listening. This is done to give audience experience that these two actors are having interaction each other.
5. Close-Up (CU)
Close up is a technique of shooting that taken from close range. Usually shoot will focus to the face, used to show facial expressions / mimic of the actor. Attention to detail object, or to direct the audience on an overlooked element.
By knowing many camera shooting technique, we expected even new cameraman can take a better quality picture that can easily edited if it was needed in the futures. Just for a notice, even we will edited it, but if the result of source video are bad, we will need more time to do editing and this will not efficient for all video production process.
