Most of the express trains and several trains of Konkan Railway have a halt at Thane railway station which is of great help for residents of the city. Four major transport corporations provide bus services to this city, namely, Thane Municipal Transport (TMT), Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Transport (KDMT), Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Transport (MBMT) and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). This facilitates travel of Thane residents as well as people coming from suburban areas of Mumbai and Thane district. In the past few years, many multinational companies have set up their offices in the city and this has increased the number of people traveling through roadways to Thane. All the four bus transport services prove to be extremely useful in ferrying people to their work locations in the city. TMT buses run through different bus lines which includes Thane and its neighboring areas. Introduction of newer buses has resulted in electronic display boards on their front and back portions which flash the destination name and route number. KDMT buses connect Kalyan and Thane city and is the only means of public road transportation. MBMT buses are used as public transport service by residents of Mira-Bhayandar area. The MSRTC is used as a popular means of Thane transportation by the locals as well as tourists and have ordinary as well as air-conditioned buses.
