subject: The 12 Theories And Techniques Of Agile Web Development (part 1) [print this page]

Agile web development is the name given to a manifesto drafted by a group of developers who believed that, by valuing certain factors over others, the development process could be vastly improved. Some of these factors include: valuing individuals and interactions over processes and tools, and customer collaboration over contract negotiation. The below list comprises the first 4 theories and techniques of agile development, and we will look at the following 8 in parts two and three:

1.Client Satisfaction

Developers who are committed to adopting the agile web development principle should make satisfying the client through the early and continuous delivery of valuable work their first priority. This means that, as each part of the website or program is created, it is passed onto the client so that they can see progress as it occurs.

2.Adapt to Changing Requirements

Most people are loathe to making changes late in the web development process, but the agile principle encourages us to be welcoming to these sorts of changes (if it can give the client a competitive advantage). This can also help to get the project finished faster, as some clients will request changes that make our lives easier.

3.Deliver Frequently

Updates to software and programs should be delivered anywhere between a few weeks and a few months (it should be noted, however, that the shorter the time span the better). This is because our clients will feel more confident in our work as it is updated, especially as we can take their feedback onboard.

4.Frequently Work Together

If you have been completing web development work in the old waterfall style, this will probably be the hardest technique to get your head around, as it involves communicating with your client and explaining, in simple terms, what each feature is and why we need it. Luckily, this will get easier the more you do it.

Whilst these processes and mindsets may at first be difficult to take onboard, over time you will find it increasingly easy to work and conduct yourself according to the agile principle. In parts two and three of this article, we will take a closer look at the final 8 theories and techniques of agile web development. By ensuring that you adopt each of these theories and techniques in the daily practice of your work, you can really help to improve and speed up the development process.
