subject: Scar Treatment: Dr Lycka Overviews The Latest Scar Treatment Methods [print this page] Hi! This is DrHi! This is Dr. Barry Lycka, host and founder of yourcosmeticdoctor.tv. I'm so glad to be writing articles for you about some of the newest advances in the world of beauty and cosmetic surgery.
Well today we are going to talk about something I am constantly being asked about 'how do you treat scars'.
Well I have some sad news for you - some scars we cannot fix - not all scars can be treated.
But the good news is that scars on certain parts of the body, such as the face, we usually can make better and get them to look better.
And even more good news about cosmetic surgery today is that scar treatment and scar correction has been at the forefront of some amazing breakthroughs and we can do wonders with them.
So how can a cosmetic surgeon take care of scars? Well let me share some secrets on that with you....
Number one, we break down the scar into its components and we mentally think about the things that are wrong - we identify what is wrong with each element.
First we look at the colour. Is the scar brown or red?
If it is brown, then we use certain types of lasers on it, and if it is red, then we use other different types of lasers on it.
Secondly, we look to see if a scar is elevated or non-elevated.
If it is elevated, it is probably a hypertrophic scar, or keloidal scar, and we have some wonderful things we can do with it. We can inject it, we can laser it, plus I've learnt how to use Botox to handle these scars as well - this is a big, big advantage!
If a scar is depressed, then we can elevate it, and that is another big thing.
One of the common types of scars we see are scars from acne. When a person has acne they have deep pimples, and when the pimples go away they leave deep scars in their place. The beautiful thing is that we can use lasers, and fillers, and other things to help them with.
One of my favourite substances for helping with scars is a new substance called PRP - Platelet Rich Plasma - I have released a video and article about this. Check the resource box for more details.
Well, PRP is amazing - it is something we take from your blood, we take the serum, we concentrate the platelets in the serum and the platelets have a lot of growth factors in them. By activating the platelets we can make the growth factors 'take off' and literally fill in scars. We can make skin look younger, better, and make scars dissapear with it.
And what else can we do with scars ?
Well, we can cut them out and re-sew them, in such a way that they become a 'z-plasty' or geographic closure, to make the scars look better, and then we can use a laser to resurface them.
Another thing we can do is something called 'fractional resurfacing', or 'pro-fractional resurfacing' to make the scars literally 'pop out and disappear'.
Well, those are some of the 'tricks' we use - but the best thing is to set up a plan for YOU.
If you have a scar that you don't like, then don't live with it - come and see a qualified physician that knows how to treat it.
