Software is generally a set of computer programs that provide instructions for the computer on what to do and what not to do. The product management software is the set of programs that govern the disciplines and business processes involving a product from its introduction to the market, to the customer delivery and to the service provision. Software for product management can be categorized into two; consumer software products and the business software products. Examples of the consumer software products are Microsoft office, a creation of Microsoft while those of the business software are QuickBooks by intuit, SAP R/3 ERP created by SAP AG and the Oracle 10g database by Oracle Corporation.

A product feed is a file that contains all the information about the services a business enterprise has to offer. Product feeds are taken to be a very essential part in the marketing strategy of an organization. They are used within a variety of available marketing channels to help shoppers to easily locate a product they desire from the internet. These channels are; the affiliate networks, paid search affiliates, price comparison networks and the market places. Some common feed formats include the RDF feed, RSS feed and the Data feeds.

The product management software in an organization is developed by the software product manager. He is the person responsible for the entire business success because he determines what is to be made and how it is to be made. He works closely with sales, marketing, quality, finance, manufacturing, engineering and installation among others. For one to become a successful software product manager, they need to possess qualities such as; must be a professional in behaviors, appearance and communication, is a risk taker, be able to measure the contributions of sales and profits, have knowledge on current market structures, be enthusiastic, must be a team player among others. The decisions and actions of the software product manager highly influence the success of a firm.

Since the product management software covers all the basis of the Product Feed from the production to its end life which is the consumption, it relies on the five phases of the product life cycle which are:

1. Strategy. It is the coming up with a strategy to come up with the best software in the market so as to beat off competition and stay ahead of the game.

2. Concept. This involves drawing the concept of the product and customer satisfaction.

3. Market entry. This is the coming up with various methods that a firm can gain market. It can either be friendly or hostile.

4. Development. This is simply developing your product to suit the needs of consumers.

5. Evolution. It is the frequent modification of a product to suit the changing needs of consumers.
