The online advertisement
The Nokia site display reads, Pure View camera technology with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a Carl Zeiss lens means your pictures and videos are detailed, blur-free and bright, no matter what light conditions youre in. No other cameraphone even comes close.
The Nokia authorities highlighted Lumia 920s Camera, with 8 megapixels, which boasts of its floating lens and image stabilization, and a Pure View branding offering amazing images to the user.
The advertisement fauxpas
The Company has to hold a shamed face upfront due to a dishonest view of the technology shown in its advertisements. The flagship phone and other paraphernalia introduced by Nokia are looked at with questioning eyes.
The ad shows a couple riding bikes along a river and the man filming the girl. The side-by-side video is supposed to talk about the video capabilities of the phone. The left hand side displays the non-stabilized terribly shaky version and the right side shows a smooth moving picture aided by Nokias optical image stabilization technology.
The cat was let out of the bag by the cameraman holding a large camera rig, standing in the doorway of a white trailer in the backdrop. The large camera rig is certainly not Lumia 920, is confirmed news from the horses mouth. Nokia admits that the video was not taken from the Lumia 920 and is deceptive advertising.
The Company claims
Even if optical stabilization is the technology that helps come out with great camera results there is no disclaimer in the ad .The Nokia spokesperson confirms the misleading ad. The Nokia Conversation blog has now announced "the OIS video, above, was not shot using the Lumia 920."The spokesman stated it was never the company's intention to deceive anyone," but only to exhibit the advantages of optical image stabilization.
"Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only. This was not shot with a Lumia 920. At least, not yet. We apologize for the confusion we created." stated Heidi Lemmetyinen on the Nokia blog.
