subject: Smart Casual: How To Do It Right [print this page]

We have all heard of the smart casual dress code. But do you know what you should do to get it right?

APPROPRIATE

The smart casual dress code has been gaining a lot of popularity due to its ease of wear. However, a good number of us are still confused about what constitutes this wardrobe. Is it more of official? Is it more of casual, or, does it embrace an equal balance of the two? It is important that you as a man know how to do it right if you are to pull it off without any fashion faux pars. The dress code is usually a step down the official wear and can be worn to a number of occasions. From that lunch with your prospective business partner, to an evening out with a bunch of your friends! These are situations we all find ourselves in once in a while, and therefore having the right clothes to wear makes us appropriate for the occasions. Therefore, let us look at some of the outfit ideas you can go with for your shirts, pants, and other accessories to achieve a smart but slightly informal look.

DENIM

Nearly everyone owns a pair or several of denim. Denim, commonly known as jeans, has been a staple of mens wardrobes since time immemorial. The trouser was invented in America, and since its invention, it has been growing and changing in design, making it even more desirable among men of all ages. However, with the variety of designs that the manufacturers have provided in the market, there is need to know the one that suits your personality and body features. There is a common misconception that jeans are ideal as casual wear only. However, the truth is that they can be dressed up or down and fit beautifully with almost any kind of function. This makes your choice a careful one as you will need to consider the versatility the pair you get will offer you. One of the things you can use to choose a good pair is the climate. For instance, during the summer months opt for jeans that have a lighter tone, preferably a minimal brown or gray tinting. For these, wear with jeans that have bright colors. They can be short-sleeves, polos, or screen printed tees.

WARMING UP

Denim can perfectly be paired with heavier clothes to give you warmth during the cold months. For instance, v-neck sweaters and mock turtlenecks are a perfect choice. These are also changing in designs and today the jersey knits and zip-up styles are becoming a favorite among the young men. For a smart casual look that will make you the envy of your peers, pair these up with a pinstriped blazer or herringbone jacket. The outfit can even be worn as formal business attire. Never wear the denim shorts as these have lost any fashion appeal they may have once had! If you have a thing for shorts, opt for those made in another fabric like cotton or even light weight wool. Pair these up with a plain tank top or a short sleeved button down shirt. However, the resulting look will be a casual one and not a smart casual look!
