The events in the film take place after those that occurred in The Hulk. The film begins with General Thaddeus Ross discussing an experiment with Bruce Banner about reviving Dr. Abraham Erskine's failed super soldier program. As a result of the program failing, Bruce is exposed to large volumes of gamma radiation. As a result of the exposure, Bruce now will become the hulk every single time he gets enraged. We saw a lot of these transformations take place in The Hulk.
The first time he becomes a hulk in The Incredible Hulk, he destroys the lab. During the destruction, Betty becomes injured. He never means for Betty to become injured because he really loves her, but this is the way it happens. After the destruction, he has to flee to avoid capture by the United States Armed Forces. Now, he has to remain a fugitive in hiding.
Five years after the great lab destruction, he works in a bottle factory in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro while at the same time; he is searching for a cure for his condition. He wants to try to curtail his transformations, so he will not bring any further trouble on himself. During his quest for a cure, he meets a guy on the Internet who says he can help Bruce with his problems. The guy does not reveal his name. Rather, he calls himself Mr. Blue. Upon knowing of this strange guy's alias, Bruce begins to refer to himself as Mr. Green. While meeting with this expert online, he is learning a number of meditative techniques from a martial arts teacher which help him to remain free of transforming for one hundred fifty days. All seems to work out well for Bruce until a complication occurs.
One day, while making bottles in the factory, Bruce cuts his finger, and a drop of his blood gets into the bottle. A consumer located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin ingests this blood, causing him to contend with medical complications. It is then that Bruce's plans to have a cure change entirely. Now, Bruce has to go on the run again because authorities are after him. He has to avoid being captured. Along with having to avoid capture, he has to win back Betty's love, as she is already dating someone else when he finds her. Life has turned into a gigantic mess for Bruce, and he has to find a way to get out of it and make things right.
The Incredible Hulk was more favorably received then The Hulk. The majority of reviews made by critics were positive. Most critics wrote about how they liked the effects as well as the creativity of the film's writers and producers.
