Any person having a golf club set or planning to buy one knows about golf club drivers and golf wedges. For those who arent aware about them, the drivers are used to drive the balls over longer distances whereas the wedges are used for some special situations like getting the ball out of tricky situations like sand pits and thick grass. They are also used for making accurate lob shots.

Golf Club Drivers

Conventionally they have a long shaft and a large head to attain a higher club speed which in turn ensures a greater push to the ball. In order to further increase the swing speed, the shafts used are light in weight so they are made out of graphite. Golf shafts made out of graphite additionally help in reducing the vibrations that a person receives while striking the ball. Also it is the longest club that is used in a set. The shafts used in the game vary from regular to extra-stiff which depends on the preferences of each player.

The drivers generally have three different kinds of heads which are made up of different materials and each has a unique advantage over the other. The steel heads were used conventionally but were later replaced by titanium ones. The steel heads are heavier and have a smaller size which reduces the number of sweet spots whereas the titanium ones are quite light and they enable a larger size. Using a titanium head can help you save a few shots in the game. The third kind of head uses a composite material which includes a titanium face and some lighter materials like carbon. It ensures that the head is light in weight and retains its strength. The titanium heads are expensive as compared to the steel ones but can prove to be quite useful.

Golf Wedges

These clubs have the smallest shaft and provide the highest loft. There are different types available like sand wedges, pitching wedges, lob wedges and gap wedges.

Pitching wedges provide the lowest loft and are generally used for playing layup shots. They also come in handy when the ball is stuck in a sand pit. Gap wedge is comparatively higher lofted than the pitching wedge. It is one of the new entrants to the wedges category and a complete swing using the same can help you push the ball for approximately 100 yards. Sand wedges have special designs which help players to play out of soft lines. The fourth member which completes the list of wedges is the lob wedge. They provide the highest loft, and the highest launch angle, no rolling or short carry distance.
