subject: Trend Setting Uggs Have Become The Ultimate Fashion Statement [print this page]

Uggs - You either love them or hate them! If you don't know shat the heck Uggs are, then you may at some time become one of the people who loves these boots, or one of the many people who also hate them and won't be caught dead wearing them outside or inside the house.

These traditional Australian sheepskin boots are now available under a branded US trademark, where changing markets and demanding fans, have seen, sandals, slippers, handbags, kiddies Uggs and espadrilles made in recent times. The boots are also available in many and varied styles, long, short, and with different exteriors finishes, but the basic design remains the same.

During World War I, when pilots flew in open bi-planes they wore Uggs for warmth and called them the "flying Ugg" or FUG. As far back as the 1930's Australian farmers wore them for warms and in the 1960's surfers wore them to warm their feet when they came in from the water.

In Australia, they have been worn indoors, outdoors and even as we have told you, on the beach, all with the purpose of keeping the feet warm. A few manufacturers of these boots still exist in Australia, but they market their goods as "Australian sheepskin boots", known as Uggs, or Ughs, as the trademark "UGG" is owned by a US company.

Regardless of what name you give to them and whether they are manufactured in the US or Australia, the essence of the boot remains the same and they have been made a trend setting item of footwear. You only have to see one celebrity wearing an item for it to become trendy and trendsetters such as Oprah and Paris Hilton have acknowledged they are huge fans of the Ugg boot, as have many other celebs. They are incredibly warm and very practical as well as being a fashion statement.

The name, as Australian legend tells us, just came about from calling these boots "ugly" it was shortened to Ug or Ugh and even has an entry in dictionaries in this country.

The capitalist Americans found this out and registered a trademark which operates under the "Decker Outdoor Corporation", who are also by the way, the parent company of UGG Australia.
