subject: Packing Holiday Essentials [print this page]

When you are going on holiday, there are so many things you need to think about from the best type of sunscreen to pack, to the best type of lunch bags to buy for your kids. This mammoth task of organisation can seem never ending, yet getting it right is important and making sure your family are fully taken care of is a great feeling. Obviously, the most difficult to please will be your kids, for whom the small things matter a lot more than you might imagine. The difference between getting a One Direction lunch bag for your camping holiday might seem like the difference between life and death to your daughter, even when it is the furthest thing from your mind.

However, in the long run, though such requirements might not seem important, it is often easier to acquiesce to your childs request, even when the difference between a generic container and a One Direction lunch bag might seem minimal. Indeed, the most important thing about going on holiday is to relax and have a good time, so make sure you are prepared and start working on a list of necessities before you get close to the departure date.

Things such as medicines, sunscreen, books and travel games are usually taken as read; it is often the more domestic items that can easily be forgotten, especially if you are going on a camping or self-catering holiday where it is easy to forget just how much stuff you need to bring. Form Thermos flasks, to picnic cutlery and rugs, think about the sort of activities you will be engaging in and then embark on a thought projection exercise to try and work out everything you will need to take.

The kids are a whole other issue unto themselves and require separate planning; from the type of shoes they have, to whether their coat happens to be truly waterproof. Indeed, it is easy to forget everything that kids need and whereas you might be prepared to make do with roughing it, your child might not be so keen to carry her lunch in a supermarket plastic bag. The point being: that if you want to avoid tears at bedtime, make sure they have what they need, whether that happens to be their own lunch bag, or a new pair of shoes.

The internet is a great place to start your search and many travel shops will have items neatly and usefully categorised into different sectors, making it easier to find what you want and plan how much you are going to spend.
